This project grew from educators’ desire to rethink their practice by bringing Reggio Emilia and place‑based literacies together in a way that frees children’s play and deepens reflection on why and how they work. Through weekly walks with children and families through a familiar wetland, rich relationships emerged with place, weather, seasons, and both human and more‑than‑human companions, fostering connection, belonging, and curiosity. By slowing down, saying yes, and valuing story, rhythm, song, and sensory exploration, educators offered children – and adults – the gift of time for safe, embodied, and meaningful engagement with nature.
