About the Project

The Ecological Literacies Network is a collective on a mission to reimagine education through ecological ways of knowing, being, and living

Comprised of an academic researcher, four pedagogues, and more than 25 educators working across Australia, our network brings together research, theory, and everyday practice. We work collaboratively to explore what ecological literacy can mean in contemporary education – not as an added layer to curriculum, but as a foundational orientation to learning itself.

We believe ecological literacies are cultivated through relationships: with place, with community, and with the more-than-human world. For us, this work is grounded in dialogue, inquiry, and shared reflection. It is about slowing down, paying attention, and learning alongside children as we consider our responsibilities to each other and to the planet.

Through collaborative research, pedagogical documentation, and critical conversation, we support educators to embed ecological thinking into daily practice. Together, we examine how sustainability, justice, care, and relationality can move from aspiration into lived experience within educational settings.

The Ecological Literacies Network exists to connect, challenge, and inspire. We are committed to nurturing communities of practice that are thoughtful, responsive, and hopeful — communities that recognise ecological literacy as essential for our time.
