Don’t Dig Here: the soil doesn’t want to be dug

This project was a centre-wide collaboration, engaging children from babies aged 5–6 months through to kindy 5-year-olds. Guided by our Reggio-inspired philosophy, the project supported children as active explorers and meaning-makers, engaging deeply with the natural world to build understanding, curiosity, and connection. Through sensory soil play, composting, and investigations of water and earth systems, children developed eco-literacy and sustainability awareness, learning how their actions impact the environment. Experiences in nature also supported emotional wellbeing, providing calm, reflective, and joyful opportunities for exploration while fostering empathy, care, and relational understanding across the centre community.
