Don’t Dig Here: The Soil Doesn’t Want To Be Dug
Whadjuk 📍
This project was a centre-wide collaboration, engaging children from babies aged 5–6 months through to Kindy 5-year-olds. Guided by the centre’s philosophy, the project positioned children as active explorers and meaning-makers, engaging deeply with the world to build understanding, curiosity, and connection.
Through sensory encounters with soil, composting, and investigations into water and earth systems, the children developed ecological literacy and an emerging understanding of sustainability, recognising how their actions shape and influence the environment. These experiences also supported emotional wellbeing, offering calm, reflective, and joyful opportunities for exploration while fostering empathy, care, and relational ways of being across the centre community.
